Welcome to 5A… I am looking forward to a wonderful year…

Each week I will let you know what’s going on in English/Language arts, S.S. for the entire fifth grade, and spelling and Bible for 5A.

Spelling: None this week due to ELA beginning of year assessment.

ELA: Beginning of year assessment. Writing in journals.

S.S.: Chapter 1: Peopling the Western Hemisphere: Test Fri.9/12. We will be completing a ‘foldable’ that will be graded as a classwork grade. We are also discussing timelines and students will be assigned a project that involves making a timeline of their lives from birth until now. Paper and directions will be going home. We will be going over the directions together in class. Timeline is due 9/22.

Bible: We will be discussing our class theme. This is loving God so much that you put Him first in your life. The first Bible verse test will be Sept. 19. The verse is Jeremiah 29:11. We will be discussing this, as will as the character education word for the month: Respect.

Students should be copying homework into their assignment pads each day. Please have your child look at this every night to be sure all work is being completed.

We are getting used to our classroom, schedule, and switching for math and science.

If you  have any questions, you may send a note in with your child or email me at [email protected].

Hope to see you at Back To School night when we will let you know how fifth grade runs and more about what is expected from you child. ( Sept.16)

This week I have been thinking about a verse from the book of James.: James1:22

Don’t just listen to the word. You fool yourself if you do that. You must do what it says.

I am blessed to have grown up in a Christian home, learning about God and His unfailing love from a young age. This verse was reminder to me that if I want to please my Lord and Savior, it is not enough just to know the Bible, but I have to be trying to live the way He guides us to in His Word. At times, this is a daunting task , but then I remember our school’s verse for the year…I can do all thins through Christ who strengthens me. I hope I have encouraged you in some small way.

Have a wonderful week……Mrs. Lively
