WELCOME  BACK

It seems that the beginning of the school year in September comes all too fast.  Parents and students were just winding down from the year in June, and so quickly, school is beginning again.
Whatever emotions and feelings you and your child are experiencing, here are some suggestions for making the transition into a new school year.

     *  Be sure your child gets enough rest.  Even if the weather is still warm, it’s important that your child gets to sleep at the proper time to allow for a good night’s sleep.

     *  Provide a nutritious breakfast.  Good nutrition plays a part in your child’s performance.

     *  Stay organized, especially for the mornings when your child is leaving.  Preparing the night before can avoid rushing to find things at the last minute.  Have homework, books, lunch money, clothes, etc.  ready the night before so the morning goes smoothly.

     *  Then stay organized.  Keep a calendar with all activities, dates, etc. marked.  Be sure you have all the supplies your child needs.  Keep folders or files to keep track of papers, etc.  Keeping organized can avoid losing something important and allows your child to develop good organizational skills if you are a good role model.

     *  Provide a quiet study area .  Have a special place for your child to do homework and study.  Keep all necessary supplies readily available.  Set up study and homework times with your child so they are aware when it is time to get to work.

     *  Establish a good rapport with your child’s teacher.  Work as a partnership for the benefit of your child and let the teacher know you are there to help.

     *  Let your child know his education is important to you.  Show an interest in what they are learning.  Praise the good work and successes and show support when they are discouraged.
