Dear Parents,
We have had a busy week learning all about farm animals, such as pigs, sheep, and ducks. We also had a wonderful time at White Post Farms where we were able to visit and feed the animals as we continued learning about how they live, eat and sleep. We also learned how to recognize and sound out the letter “D” for Duck, and the color yellow. The children enjoyed their new sensory bin filled with hay and farm animals.
This coming week the children will continue learning about farm animals. We will learn all about hens and cows. We will read the book “The Little Red Hen” which explains the importance of helping each other. We will also read the book “Click Clack Moo.” The color of the week will be “brown.” The children will also learn about the letter “B” for bat. They will learn how to recognize, sound out, and trace the letter “B.” We will be making some fun bat crafts to decorate our classroom. Columbus Day is coming up; therefore, the children will learn the importance of how Christopher Columbus landed in a new world “America,” in 1492. The children will also be making a fun Columbus hat to wear home.
During centers, the children will continue to practice tracing by tracing their names. They will also continue to learn while having fun at the “farm animal” sensory bin. During religious instruction this week, the children will learn all about the story of Noah’s Ark. We will continue learning this prayer at snack time:
Thank you God for our food so good.
Help us do the things we should.
Amen
Picture day is on Monday, October 7th. The children will be taking individual pictures as well as a class picture. If your child does not attend school on Monday, please bring them to school for half day (8:45am to 11:45am) so that they can be in the class picture.
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. We ask all students to wear blue on Wednesday, October 9th, to raise awareness about Down Syndrome. We hope that you join us in wearing blue. The message we are teaching this month, and always, is that we are all more alike than different and we should treat all our friends with kindness.
We will have our first lock down drill on Thursday, October 10th, in the afternoon. The children will learn about the importance of a lock down drill and what to do during a lock down drill to keep us all safe.
