This week we will be focusing on the following topics in each subject listed below. 

We will also be beginning our celebration of Black History Month by hanging up the banner that we created last week, as well as learning about 1 famous African American each day. We will also be celebrating the Chinese/Lunar New Year on Tuesday with a special activity. 

ELA-  We will  finish reading from our class read-aloud The Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements. Our writing for the week will be informational writing, with a cross-curricular tie to S.S. This week’s writing will be completing a Colonial New York Brochure. The grammar for the week is on homophones, its vs. it’s. There will be a Reading Log this week on Google Classroom. Please have your child read each night for 15 min and log their reading. 

Math- This week we will finish chapter 7, Adding and Subtracting Fractions. Our Math Quiz will be on 2-7 and our test on 2-8.  As always, reteach pages will be posted on google classroom for additional practice. Please continue to work on fact fluency at home. We have started using Splash Learning in class, however it is an excellent resource for additional practice at home. Directions will be going home for how to connect for at home access. 

Social Studies- This week we will finish Chapter 3 from our S.S. textbook. We will begin to close our unit with a final activity. Students will be making a brochure highlighting what life in the colonies in the 1700’s was like. This brochure will be counted as a quiz grade in S.S. It is due on Wednesday 2-2, and can be found in Google Classroom. We will have a S.S. Test on Friday. A review sheet will be going home on Wednesday to help your student study for the test. 

We will be continuing our Black History Month Banner Project. Each student will continue to research their person and begin drafting their banner. 

Science– This week we will continue our unit of study: The Human Machine, learning about how our eyes work.  

Religion- This week in religion we will be learning about the Old Testament story of Joseph and his Brothers, Genesis 37
