Dear Parents,

This past week we finished our unit on hibernation with lessons about groundhogs. We learned the letter M and we worked on our number and shape book. The letter for this week will be “X” for X-Ray. The children will learn to recognize, trace, and sound out the letter “X”.  February is a short and busy month. We celebrate Valentine’s Day, Black History Month, National Dental Health Month, and President’s Month. These themes will be discussed throughout the month. We are off the week of February 17th for Winter Break.

Monday, the class will get a visit from Kiddsmiles. A dentist will teach them the importance of good dental hygiene. We will revisit our lesson on Martin Luther King as we introduce Black History Month. We will continue working on our kindness hearts and we will introduce our 100 Acts of Kindness Initiative for the month of February. The children and staff in ECC will earn a heart for every act of kindness that is witnessed. Once we reach 100 acts of kindness, ECC will get an ice-cream party.

For religion, the children will learn how Jesus blesses the children. We will introduce a new prayer for the month of February, “Thank you Lord for all my friends. Help us to be kind and to shine your light to others. Amen.”

All library books are due back on Thursday/Friday and new books will be borrowed on those days. We will continue with a Mystery Reader each week. If you would like to be a Mystery Reader, please sign up on Class Dojo.

Have a great week!
