Hello Parents! Thankfully, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow on Friday which means there will be an early spring!!! Mrs. Maldonado and I are so excited about this because that means warmer weather! Hopefully we will be able to go outside and enjoy it very soon. Please continue to pack the proper attire for your child if/when we go outside.
Important Announcement: We will be having our Valentine’s Day celebration on Wednesday, 2/14! A sign-up will be posted on our ClassDojo page asking for volunteers to bring in a special treat! Thank you all so much for supplying our class with materials/goodies throughout the school year.
We are continuing Theme 5 “Imagine It, Make It” and starting Unit 2 “Tools We Use”. BIG Idea: I can use tools to create and build. Knowledge Focus: Children learn how imagination and creativity shape our world. Social-Emotional Focus: Initiative. The theme vocabulary words include: bridge, build, ramp, tools and structure. Math vocabulary words include: next, pattern and repeats.
We will be learning the letter Qq, number 16 and continue to review shapes and colors. We will also continue with our weekly journal’s on Fridays. We will be reading the books “Science Tools”, “The Shape of Things” and “Alphabet Under Construction”. We will continue to learn about influential people of color to honor Black History Month. This week we are taking a closer look at Jackie Robinson’s life and impact he had on society. In honor of Black History Month, we will also create a special project relating to Rosa Parks and her influential life.
February is National Dental Health month so we will begin learning about the importance of dental health and how we can take care of our teeth. We will receive a special visit from a local dentist, KiddSmiles next week.
We are continuing to finish up our Valentine’s Day crafts this week as well. Keep an eye out on the mail, you will receive a special surprise! Also, all recipe papers are due this Wednesday, 2/7. Please return them with your child ASAP along with a photo in a private message. This is incredibly important.
On Friday, we will celebrate the Lunar New Year with a special book and treats brought in by the Chan family. We will also create a paper lantern craft to celebrate!
For Jesus Time, Mrs. Maldonado will discuss how Jesus blesses the children. We will also sing the song “Jesus Is My Valentine” in honor of Valentine’s Day and continue to sing “Love in a Box.” We will continue to pray using our new prayer during snack time.
