We are starting a new theme this week which is theme 3 titled “Our Community” and unit 1 titled “Places We Go”. BIG Idea: Children learn about the role of the community in their lives and the importance of good citizenship. Social-Emotional Focus: Responsibility. The theme vocabulary words include: apartments, block, building, community, firehouse, hospital, library, neighborhood, park and sidewalk. Math vocabulary words include: above, location, near, next to, route and through. For this entire theme, I will be asking for parent community worker volunteers to come in and discuss their jobs with the class! Please keep an eye out on our dojo for more information.
We will be learning the letter Gg, color gray, number 9 and review shapes. We will be reading the books “Lola at the Library”, “Knuffle Bunny”, “A Goodnight Walk” and “Mama Zooms”. We will also be reading the “Here Come the Veterans!” Scholastic weekly reader. For our afternoon instruction, we will create a torn paper Veteran’s Day craft that focuses on developing fine motor skills, and complete a color review leaf sheet. In honor of Election Day on Tuesday, we will be voting for our class snack! We will continue to recap our week in our Weekly Journal on Fridays.
We will start talking about squirrels, acorns and leaves this week as well! We will complete a tissue paper squirrel craft as well as a hanging-leaf craft using the leaves we collected from our Nature Walk! This will be displayed on dojo! We will also use the acorns we collected for our sensory bin. The children will have to use tweezers to take them out! This will help their fine motor skills.
For music and movement, we will continue to sing our Thanksgiving song titled “Thank Him” and dance to a guided Turkey dance using GoNoodle.com!
For Jesus time, Mrs. Maldonado will continue to teach the children new Jesus songs and we will begin singing a new song for Thanksgiving called “Thank Him” which we thank God for all he has done for us. We will also continue to recite our new prayer for the month of November. Lastly, Mrs. Maldonado will teach our Jesus time curriculum, voyages 9: “Thank you for church”.
