Hello Parents! The snow and colder weather is upon us. The change in weather also brings a lot of sicknesses. If your child does not feel well, we ask that you please keep them home.

Upcoming Dates & Reminders:

  • There will be no school Monday, 1/15 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  • There will be no school Friday, 1/19 due to parent-teacher conferences. More information to come!

We are continuing theme 4 “Awesome Animals” and starting unit 2 titled “Animal Homes”. BIG Idea: Animals have a home just like me. Knowledge Focus: Children learn about life science through the exploration of animals and animal life cycles. Social-Emotional Focus: Attention. The theme vocabulary words include: burrow, habitat, hibernate, hive, nest, tunnel, web and woods. Math vocabulary words include: after and before.

We will be learning the letter Mm, number 12 and continue to review shapes and colors. We will be reading the books “Animals Homes”, “Big Earth, Little Me”, “Bear Snores On”, “Click Clack, Quackity-Quack” and a penguin story. To get in the winter mood, we will be enjoying chicken soup with rice on Monday as a special snack! We will also discuss Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s life and legacy towards the end of the week due to his upcoming birthday on Monday 1/15/23. It is very important for the students to hear about such an influential public figure. We will be creating an “I Have a Dream” cloud which will have each student say what their dream is for the world just as Martin Luther King Jr. did. Lastly, we will recap this short week in our weekly journals.

We will continue talking about animals and all of their different habitats. Our focus for this week will also be all things bears! The children will learn what it means to hibernate and what animals do so during the Winter.

For Jesus time, Mrs. Maldonado will discuss Jesus as a little boy and take a closer look at how he grew up. The children will learn that Jesus grew just as they grow! She will read a special book to the class regarding this topic.

Progress Report testing will continue this week until parent-teacher conferences on Friday, January 19th. More information will be posted via ClassDojo regarding times.
