Hello, all. The first three days of school last week were absolutely wonderful and I am looking forward to our first full week together! Along with posting here, your children will also need to check their respective Google Classrooms for more specific daily posts.

7th Social Studies

To extend our study of Early American cultures, the students will be completing an art activity based on the designs of the Mayan calendar. From there, we will continue to study the cultures of the regions of North America and especially focus on how each culture group adapted to its environment and climate.

8th Social Studies

In eighth grade we jumped right in to the Civil War last week. This week we will continue with looking at the early battles as well as the experiences of individual soldiers on each side. Often times people do not realize that family and friends at once became enemies once the first shots were fired. Throughout the course of this unit, we will look at a number of primary sources, along with viewing clips of Ken Burns’ epic documentary series, The Civil War.

8th Religion

This week we will be delving into the results of sin entering into God’s perfect creation. First we will look at the immediate consequences for Adam and Eve, then we will study the Great Flood. The first memory quiz will take place on Friday. On the Google Classroom, I posted a schedule of memory work for the first quarter. You may view this document here. As you can see, the first passage is Matthew 4:16, which can be found on page 9 of the student book, or here.
