Hello, all! I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. While this too is a short week, there is still plenty going on. Please be on the look out for several notices. There is a letter going home regarding the Parent Portal and report cards, a notice about the annual food drive, a note about the Thanksgiving feast, and the permission slip for the Christmas show is also due back by the end of next week.

Just as a reminder, school will be closed tomorrow, November 11th, in observance of Veteran’s Day. To those of you who are active military or who are veterans of our armed forces, thank you for your service. Our nation would not be what it is today without those brave men and women who are willing to fight for our freedom. Here is a lovely tribute I found online.

8th Social Studies

This week we will be wrapping up our study of the Old West. The students will be working on an activity in class advertising for the work of cowhands. They will then finish the chapter with a study of the farmers who moved west, and the many hardships they faced. The test will take place early next week.

8th Math (Pre-Algebra)

This week the students are continuing to study proportional relationships and how graph these formulas. They will also work on finding the slope of the graphs. On a side note, I spoke to the class on the importance of keeping up with the daily homework assignments. Not only are they assigned so that the students can practice the skills they are learning, but completing all the homework is the easiest way to help keep their grades up- even if they are not great test-takers. Please check in with your children to just make sure that they are keeping up with the work.

8th Religion

This week were are continuing to work our way through the book of Exodus and how the events in the Old Testament are still relevant to our lives today. Specifically, the students will study how the Ten Commandments are still pertinent to our daily lives, and then what happened to cause the Israelites to lose faith in God temporarily. The memory verse for this week is Galatians 3:13, which can be found here or on page 35 in the student book.

Have a blessed week, everyone!
