Happy New Year, everyone! I hope everyone had a safe and healthy Christmas and New Year.  We are now back into the swing of things at school and we have a full week of work ahead. Here is what is on the agenda for this week:

8th Math: Pre-Algebra

This week the students are beginning Module 5. This is a continuation of the study of linear equations, which they began in Module 4. They will start first with taking word problems and graphs and translating them into equations. The students did well with the work in Module 4, so I am hoping that they will keep the same momentum with Module 5.

8th Social Studies

Before Christmas, the students took a test on sections 1-3 of Chapter 18. This week we are going to look at the final topics of Chapter 18, immigration and changes in education, before going on to Chapter 19: The Progressive Era. While the students are studying events that took a century ago, many of the issues are still pertinent to the happenings in the world today.

8th Religion

This week the students will begin Unit 3, which continues with the book of Joshua and will go into how the Israelites captured and settled in the Promised Land. The memory verse for this week is Joshua 1:9, which is on page 53 of the student book, or here. The quiz will be on Friday.

A Personal Message

I would like to thank all of you for the generous Christmas gifts you gave me this year. You are all very kind to think of me, and it is a joy to work with your children each day. You are all an incredible blessing to me. Thank you!
