“Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.”
Saint Teresa of Avila

 Fifth Grade’s Service Project

For the past four years Trinity’s fifth grade classes have supported the Hicksville United Methodist Church Food Pantry. We have raised funds and then purchased needed items or asked for specific donations from our generous Trinity families. This particular pantry was chosen as our service project because it is located in our community, on Old Country Road in Hicksville.

On October 25, 2013 this year’s fifth grade class took a walking trip to the church to view the pantry and hear about the important work that goes on there. Students saw the rooms in which the items are stored, and Mrs. Nanini, the pantry’s director, spoke to them about the process people go through to receive help. Visiting the pantry allows the students to get a real feel that there are people in the area of our school who, for one reason or another, have difficulty meeting everyday needs. While we were there, Mrs. Nanini thanked me for bringing the class to see the pantry, and she mentioned how impressed she was that our students seemed genuinely concerned about others. She told me we truly are the hands and feet of Jesus. I was struck by this and recalled the quote at the top of this page.

As Thanksgiving approaches and we become more aware of those in need, I encourage you to give. Give your time, talents, and items as you are able. Give when it is easy and when it is hard. Remember when you give, whatever you give, whether it is monetary, a kind word, or a prayer for another, that you truly are the hands and feet of Jesus!

Blessed are those who are generous,
Because they feed the poor.
Proverbs 22:9
