“11 Porque yo sé muy bien los planes que tengo para ustedes —afirma el Señor—, planes de bienestar y no de calamidad, a fin de darles un futuro y una esperanza.” Jeremiah 29:11

The Spanish Department is very proud to acknowledge the newest members of the La Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad chapter Amigos de Cristo, the National Junior Honor Society and Tri-M on their hard work and their commitment to learning. This year the Amigos de Cristo chapter has sold bracelets to raise money for an animal shelter, and organized and participated in a bake sale to raise awareness for children’s cancer in collaboration with Newspaper Club. This May students will visit the Ronald McDonald House and prepare baked goods for the families whose children suffer from cancer.

The Spanish Department honors Chrystelle Gooding for her win in the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Design-A-Card contest. Chrystelle has been a first place winner for two consecutive years and this year she has once again been acknowledged for her remarkable work. On May 30th, the AATSP will reveal Chrystelle’s place at their Entrega Award ceremony.

Furthermore, the Trinity faculty welcomes Doris E. Velasquez, our new Elementary School Spanish Teacher. Mrs. Velasquez will continue to enrich the minds of our young elementary students as Ms. Mendosa has done. This year the elementary school has explored numbers, months and seasons, animals, weather and clothing in Spanish. The middle school has also studied these topics, however with more depth and emphasis on grammar in Spanish. Students in the middle school acquired vocabulary that enables them to express their needs. This includes the most basic vocabulary such as introductions, telling time, classroom activities, describing family relations, and the house, as well as a more in depth look at health, professions, and travel.

Finally, as we come close to the end of the school year, we are confident in our students’ abilities to acquire the Spanish language. We are blessed with highly motivated students and pray for their continued success. As we say in Spanish, ¡Qué Dios les bendiga! or May God Bless them!

Early Childhood Rodeo last Wednesday was a huge success. Many thanks to the families who helped set up and who came to watch the children perform their various feats. The Early Childhood students are now learning about Palm Sunday and preparing for Easter.
