Last year Mrs. Karen Sanders, grade  4 teacher at Trinity, and a dedicated school parent first introduced “Live Well at TLS”.  This year we would like to continue to introduce health and wellness ideas to the students and staff of Trinity.

The goals of this program are to raise awareness about eating healthier and trying new foods.  We would also like to focus on including exercise in our daily routine, as well as tools to manage stress better.  As we expand the program we could also include concepts such as getting enough sleep and taking care of our bodies, including our teeth and skin.

Our ultimate goal would be to thread wellness throughout the whole day and have it not just be a monthly event.  We would love to hear your ideas on how to incorporate wellness at Trinity.  Please send any ideas to Carolyn Gallegos at [email protected].  We would also love to hear from you if you are willing to volunteer to assist with the program, or have something special to offer.

As the holidays approach, here are some simple ideas to help your child through this sugar-filled holiday season:

– Create a Kids’ drawer filled with fruits and vegetables and “anytime” healthy snacks not filled with sugar.

– Keep track on a chart of what your child is eating so that he/she is aware of the quantity of food eaten. You can even turn it into a game.

– Make your child the chef, and make him/her in charge of dinner. It will teach your child that healthy meal planning takes time.

– Keep the routine of eating healthy at each meal. It is very tempting to overeat at holiday parties when you are starved.

– Let a party be a party. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle with your child, then enjoy yourself at a party even if your child goes for a few extra m&m’s! You can always take a winter walk through the neighborhood!
