“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

 ~Nelson Mandela

A member of the Lutheran Schools Association (LSA) since the early days of the late 1970s (in fact, several Trinity educators were involved in the founding of LSA!), Trinity has been a constant participant in the regular conferences offered by LSA.  This year, my first as Executive Director of LSA, I have seen no difference.  And, as a former Trinity student, I couldn’t be happier!

LSA’s professional development theme for the 2013-14 school year has been “Imagining Possibilities”.  Through our regular face-to-face professional development conferences, stand-alone workshops, and other opportunities for growth, we encourage educators to imagine possibilities with us, throwing out the “Yes, but…” statements, and instead asking “What if…?”   as we seek to increase the sustainability of Lutheran schools in the New York –metro area.

During our Fall Conference, “Imagining Possibilities: Preparing Students for Their Future”, teachers from all over the area considered the student experience coupled with changes in education and the world at large.  They developed ideas and frameworks for providing the best possible learning opportunities, grounded in faith, for the students currently in their care. Trinity was right there in the middle of it, sending their entire teaching staff, grades K-8, to connect, learn, and grow.

In December, we offered schools the opportunity to learn about how cloud-based learning communities could augment the current student and teacher experience.  Principal Denise Simone and Mr. Stainkamp, attended the event, and began to consider the possibilities for Trinity’s technological infrastructure.  Be excited for what is to come!

2014 should be no different.  By the time of this publication, Trinity will have sent two representatives to LSA’s Leadership Conference, this time on the subject of mission and vision, a key element of Trinity’s ministry.  In February, two representatives will join our first installment of Curricular Conversations, where grades K-8 teachers and administrators will come together and share ideas, insights, and needs related to curriculum.  In March, Trinity’s early childhood teachers will participate in an exciting conference day, “Imagining Possibilities: Setting the Stage for Success”, where they will learn from experts, other early childhood educators, and their Trinity colleagues.  It promises to be an exciting spring of professional growth, with more coming from LSA.

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod celebrates National Lutheran Schools Week this coming week.  Please take a moment to remember Trinity’s educators in prayer and celebration, as they continually strive for professional growth.  We at LSA are thrilled to partner with Trinity and support its exciting work.

Here’s to the learning occurring, both in and out of classrooms, at Trinity Lutheran School.  Blessings to the Trinity family from the Lutheran Schools Association!              Jessica Raba

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK began yesterday, January 26th.  We will be celebrating the importance of Lutheran schools by focusing on their importance and place in today’s society. Lutheran school students are expected to strive for academic excellence as they grow in service to Christ.

RE-ENROLLMENT  is in full-swing now. Please remember that February 1is the deadline foe registering at the discount price of $150 per child for next school year. After February 1, the fee increases to $175 per child until March 1st when it increases to $250 per child. We hope all our current families will take advantage of the lower rates and re-enroll their child(ren) as soon as possible. We truly want to count our current children in our enrollment for next year – they are very precious to us!

  • Pizza servers are still needed. If you can give even one day to our loyal PTFA parent servers, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Ms. Arlene Mayers at 516-565-3975 if you can help. This Friday, January 24, especially needs a server. Many thanks in advance!
  • School Lunch Menus were due last Friday. Please remember to circle the items you want, do not “X” out what you do not want, have a parent sign the bottom of the menu and write your first and last name on the menu. Thanks so much for helping the lunch counters be as accurate as possible.
  • For students who pre-purchased chicken nuggets  for January 22nd, a “snow day”, you will receive a credit for the first “Chicken Nugget” day in February. Our cafeteria staff will handle all credits for you.
