“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

 PLUS
Playing and Learning Under Supervision

… and that’s exactly what we do! Hello and welcome to PLUS, our after school program here at Trinity.  PLUS has been structured to be similar to what children would do if they were to go directly home after school. When children arrive to us at 3:00 in the cafeteria they are given a snack. I have incorporated some new snacks this year, including cereal with milk. Children may also bring snacks from home if they prefer.  Around 3:30 we clean up snack and the children are always eager to help wipe down the tables!

After snack, homework begins. Ms. DeVaul and Miss Emily help our large group of kindergarteners stay focused on their homework and I sit with the first graders to help them when needed. During that time other students come over to us for help and to have their homework checked when it is completed.  When students are done with homework there are several things they may do. On a nice day we will go outside to the playground. If the weather isn’t on our side we will stay in the cafeteria and set up board games and, if the gym is free, we will take out the balls to play in the gym. As an added bonus this year, we have graciously been given a huge box of Rainbow Loom rubber bands from Donna Haines that the children love using to make bracelets for themselves and each other.

PLUS ends promptly at 6pm as we send the children home to their families to rest up for the next day! I truly love being the PLUS director and getting to spend time with some really great kids!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY for Trinity faculty is this Thursday, October 31st. There will be no school for students in grades K-8. The Early Childhood Center will be open but there will be no after care available.

SUPER STORM SANDY – The first anniversary of Super Storm Sandy is tomorrow. The anniversary reminds us of how important it is for our school to have everyone’s emergency phone number and e-mail address on file. Thus, we plead with all families to send in an Emergency Card with this information on it. We want you to be kept in the loop with our updated parent notification system! You will be notified of emergency situations if we have your information via texts, emails and voicemail. If you haven’t done so yet, please take care of this most important chore immediately. If you need another Emergency Card, just ask the school office.

PARENT PORTAL – You will need a user name and password to access your child’s information on our portal. Please proceed by providing your current e-mail address to the school office for such access. If we don’t have a good current e-mail address you will not be able to access your child’s information. You may email your email address to Maureen DeGennaro at [email protected].

FALL MAJOR FUNDRAISER deadline has been extended until tomorrow. Please remember to send in your orders and the appropriate payment tomorrow morning. This is the large fundraiser for the year and we need all your support. Your comments regarding the items offered for sale are welcome – just let the school office or the PTFA know your opinions.

BOUNCE ON IT – The PTFA’s fundraiser, Bounce On It, takes place on Wednesday, October 30th. Hopefully you have already signed up to join your friends at this fun event in Syosset. If you haven’t, but you still would like to, please e-mail Renee Requena at [email protected].

TRUNK OR TREAT – Trunk or Treat has been cancelled. Be on the lookout for other upcoming PTFA events!

PARENT WORKSHOP – On Wednesday, November 13th at 7:00 pm the PTFA will host a workshop on Elementary Nutrition. Heart Beet Café  uses fun comics and cartoons to inspire kids to make healthier food choices. R.S.V.P. by November 10th to [email protected]. Your attendance enters you in a raffle for a chance to win one free week at Trinity’s Celebrate Summer Camp or one delicious baked good by Mrs. Eileen Heigl, Trinity’s resident gourmet baker.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAYS:

  • Tuesday, 10/29 is Picture Day for students in K-4 and Early Childhood. This is not a “Dress Up” day as all photos will be taken of students in their school uniforms.
  • Wednesday, 10/30 is Picture Day for students in grades 5-8 and Early Childhood. Once again, all photos will be taken of students in their school uniforms.

REMINDER:  Next Wednesday through Friday Trinity seventh graders will be on a retreat at Camp Koinonia. This trip is a wonderful opportunity for our students to commune with nature and enjoy the camaraderie of their peers. Students will leave at 7:00 am Wednesday and return around 4:00 pm Friday. We wish them great weather for all their outdoor activities.
