“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

News from the Second Grade

If you walk by the second grade classroom, you may hear a lot of excitement. Our second graders are filled with a passion for learning and creativity! Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:

  • In science, we are learning the various ways that plants and animals adapt to their environment. We LOVE to watch mini videos on BrainPOP to learn more about camouflage, habitats, hibernation and more.
  • In social studies, we just completed our “Me on the Map” projects. The students learned the difference between our town, country, continent and planet. Check out these colorful projects if you happen to be walking in our hallway!
  • In reading, we have been reading in our slippers – thanks to the book Herbie Jones and the Second Grade Slippers!
  • In religion, we created Moses puppets to help act out the story of “Moses and the Burning Bush.” Through this activity, the children learned that even in our toughest times, God is with us.
  • In math, we have been learning how to measure with centimeters and meters. We planned out all the ways we could remodel our classroom now that we are professionals at measuring!

The second grade’s greatest skill is their ability to work together. I am so proud to see them help each other become better readers, writers, math students and more confident in everything they do. While completing our math sprints the other day, one child got out of his seat and walked over to another student to pat him on the back and say “Great job!”, when he noticed that child’s math score had greatly improved. I think we can all learn from that simple pat on the back. I bet you that student will always recall that pat when struggling. That’s what I love most about our school: Just as important as our academic gains is our ability to be like Christ. How lucky I am to see so many examples every day in my classroom and throughout the entire building.

Grace and blessings,

Ms. Hansen

FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL last Saturday was a huge success. We welcomed many Trinity alums, some to accompany the current jazz band, and others to participate in the many fun activities that were planned.  A wonderful blend of church and school families could be seen tasting food, and participating in a variety of games and raffles.  The pies entered in the Apple Pie Contest were delicious and we congratulate the winner: the Chiariello family (Maria – 3AA, Sofia – ECC)  –  third year in a row! Wow, those “double-dutch jump rope” volunteers were a real treat to watch. Some folks even joined in! Many thanks to all our volunteer bakers, ticket sellers, photographers, and crafts folks who worked so hard to pull off this massive event. Let’s do it again next year!

MAJOR FUND RAISER is due today. If for some reason you cannot return your sales today, please notify the school office.

NOVEMBER LUNCH MENUS were due last Friday. Any menus submitted tomorrow will be returned. Please only circle the days your child is actually interested in purchasing. All circled choices are paid for by Trinity and we need an accurate count to give Ms Marcie, otherwise Trinity loses money on nonpurchased, but committed, lunches which can result in a loss of money for Trinity.

THANKSGIVING FEAST – Trinity’s annual school-wide Thanksgiving Feast will be held Tuesday, November 26. Ms. Marcia, our lunch caterer, will provide the food, with students having a choice of turkey or chicken nuggets with all the trimmings. A flyer will be going home shortly requesting your child’s preference.

CAMP KOINONIA – Our seventh grade students will be leaving at 7:00 am on Wednesday, November 6th, for a wonderful three day retreat at Camp Koinonia. We pray for good weather for all three days.

CLASSROOM LOCKER LOCKS – All middle school students should have purchased from the school store a classroom locker lock. If you were unable to do so at the beginning of the school year, please do so now. These locks have a special key opening in the back, accessible to homeroom teachers, for times when a combination may be forgotten, or if books are requested during a student’s absence from school. Just stop by the school office and we will sell you a lock for $10.00!! Please do this by Friday, October 25th.

STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHS:  Next Tuesday, 10/29,  photos for students in ECC and grades k –  4 will be taken, and Wednesday, 10/30, photos for students in ECC and grades 5 – grade 8 will be taken. Photo forms will be going home today or tomorrow.
