National Junior Honor Society

Membership in the Trinity chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is earned by effective demonstration of the five qualities held in high esteem by the Society. These qualities are scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Scholarship means a commitment to learning. All students in the National Junior Honor Society must maintain a cumulative average of 90% and above. Service can be described as a willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or without recognition. Each month the students must perform a service in which they must give back to the community. In addition, every month the chapter supports a specific charity. For example, this year, with all of your help, we have raised money for breast cancer, collected food for local food pantries, donated money to families in need, and helped to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and participated in LUHI’s annual Meal Packing Event.

Leadership of students in the society should be evident in a willingness to yield one’s personal interest for the interest of others. A leader has self-confidence to go forward when others hesitate. Character is the force within each individual which distinguishes that person from others and gives students individuality. Citizenship represents the obligations each member of our society has to live up to the democratic ideals given to us by the founders of our country. The responsibilities we have to our home, community, state, and our nation are many.

Last week I had the opportunity to induct 34 new students into the Trinity Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Each of these students displayed the qualities described above. It marked the recognition of work well done thus far. It is my hope these students will be an inspiration to others, and they will go forward into the world to even greater achievements.

WINGO last Friday night was a lot of fun for the over 200 people who attended. It was a real treat to see former students come out for the tasty pasta dinner and a chance to win one of the many raffle prizes. Many thanks to all the volunteers who organized this event and helped set it up . A tremendous amount of effort is involved in this fundraiser and hopefully its goal was met.
