News from Admissions

We are certainly changing things up and making waves in Admissions this 1415 school year! There are so many great activities and campaigns currently going on in Admissions that are helping show people just how great Trinity Lutheran School is!

Our social media sites are BOOMING! If you have not yet checked out our Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram accounts; I encourage you to do so! Posts are made daily that include Student Updates, Meet the Team Questions, Upcoming Events, Birthday Announcements, Fundraiser Announcements, Pet of the Week Posts and much more!

We also have two new videos that were made of our school that can be found on our Facebook page! (Will be coming soon to our website).

Admissions also runs the Trinity Student Advocate Club which consists of 7th and 8th graders. They have been helping raise Trinity Spirit a great deal this year! From helping out at the Athletics Car Wash, practicing giving guided tours of the school and creating monthly flyers, these students have what it takes and are great advocates for Trinity Lutheran.

As for upcoming events, we have two Open Houses on January 24thand March 7th from 12 noon to 2:00 PM; Middle School Information Night is January 15th at 7:00 PM and our Look & See is going to be held on January 20th. If you or someone you know would like more information about these upcoming events and may be interested in seeing what Trinity has to offer, please call 516-931-2211 x 203.

Re-registration is underway at Trinity Lutheran School. If you have not registered already, please send in your form as soon as possible to lock in your child’s seat for the 15-16 school year. These forms are on our website under the Admissions tab. https://trinityli.org/admissions-forms/

News from Mrs. Schoenstein, School Nurse

Happy New Year!

Cold and flu season is in full swing. Trinity Lutheran School has had some flu cases already this year. The following article contains recommendations by the CDC to help us all stay healthier.

What is influenza (also called flu)?

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness. It spreads easily from person to person

The CDC recommends a three pronged approach to fighting the flu: get vaccinatedtake everyday preventative actions to curb the spread of germs and stay home if you are sick to prevent spreading the flu to others.

Signs and symptoms of flu:

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • •     Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • •     Cough
  • •     Sore throat
  • •     Runny or stuffy nose
  • •     Muscle or body aches
  • •     Headaches
  • •     Fatigue (very tired)
  • •     Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.Children with any of these symptoms should not be sent to school.

    How flu spreads:

Most experts believe that flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby. This is why it is important to cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Less often, a person might also get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, eyes or possibly their nose.

How can you tell the difference between a cold and the flu?

Because colds and flu share many symptoms, it can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Your doctor can administer a special test for the flu.

What are the symptoms of the flu versus the symptoms of a cold?

In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.

When can my child go back to school after having the flu?

Children with the flu should be isolated in the home away from other people. They should also stay home until they have no fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-controlling medicines like Tylenol or Motrin.
