The Trinity Times

December 1, 2014

Dear Trinity Family,

There are two words that always make me think of this holiday season.  Can you guess what they are?  Nope, it’s not “Merry Christmas,” or “Happy Holidays.”  It’s not “Santa Claus” or “Tiny Tim.”  It’s not even “Wrapping Paper” or “More Eggnog!”  The two words that always transport me right into the middle of Advent and Christmas are

“Fear Not!”

Just think about it.  “Fear Not!” says the angel to Mary.  “Fear Not!” says the angel to Zacharias.  “Fear Not!” says the angel to Joseph.  And what does the angel say to the Shepherds?  “Fear Not!” Are you beginning to see a pattern?

For a holiday that is so full of peace and joy, we certainly see a lot of fear in the Biblical accounts.  But maybe that’s comforting to you.  Chances are something has you afraid this Christmas.  Maybe it’s the health or future of a loved one.  Maybe it’s simply being able to afford the kind of presents you want to give to your family.  Maybe there is some tiny little fear that you have hidden away in the back corner of your mind that only you know about.

Whatever it is, give heed to the words of the Angel.  “Fear Not!”  God has come, is coming, and will come again to help His people!  That’s what the word Advent means. God is coming to dwell among mankind and bring us the peace and joy that can only come from the creator of the universe.

As this New Year approaches, I want to challenge us, the saints of Trinity Lutheran, to impact the world for good.  People are in great need, and now more than ever, need us to share with them the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ!  We need to be people of prayer, faith, righteousness, and compassion.  We need to love each other and love God above all else.  Will you commit 2015 to being a year that you live more fully in Jesus Christ and his community here at Trinity?

I hope to see you active here in the church and school this Advent and Christmas.  ‘Tis the season for the love and joy that we all share here at Trinity!  This year as we celebrate together, may you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ Child.

Merry Christmas and have a Blessed New Year!
