We hope that everyone enjoyed a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving with their families. Now that the Thanksgiving holiday has past, the Christmas season is here!
This week in class we will learn about Advent. Advent is the time when we get ready for Christ’s coming into the world on Christmas. This week will will discuss this week’s lighting of the candle of hope on the Advent wreath. We will discuss the gift of hope that Christmas gifts to us. We will begin to decorate our classroom for Christmas as we hope for a happy holiday season. Our Jesus time songs of praise will include, “My Hope Is In The Lord” and “Mary Had A Baby Boy.”
One of my favorite Advent traditions is the making of gingerbread cookies. This week we will enjoy a variety of gingerbread activities. We will enjoy a variety of retellings of the famous “Gingerbread Man” story. We will count to five as we recite the finger play, “5 Little Gingerbread Men.” We will create a variety of holiday gingerbread inspired art and even get to taste real gingerbread cookies at the end of the week. We will also use our senses to explore gingerbread playdough and gingerbread cloud dough at the sensory table. Our dramatic play center will transform into a bakery as we explore the community helper, baker, through play.
