This week we light the second candle on our Advent wreath, the candle of peace. We reflect on the peace that Christmas gifts us and the peace of that first holy night when Jesus was born. We continue to get ready for Christmas with a variety of crafts, lessons and stories that center on the Christmas story. We also have a variety of Christmas themed centers available in the classroom. We are busy making holiday decorations and gifts in the art center. Our block center has a design your own North Pole playset. There is Christmas cookie cloud dough and Christmas cookie cutters in the sensory bin. We have pine tree clippings and pinecones to observe in the science center, holiday roll and count games in the math center, and a Christmas bakery and coffee shop set up in the dramatic play center. Jesus was born king of the Jewish people. We will also learn about letter Kk and create k is for king crowns in the afternoon to wear.
In addition to the homework packet, the children have an additional homework assignment this week. We would like each child to send in a large sized (maybe 12 – 15 inch minimum) gift bag to store all their holiday crafts and to eventually take them all home in. It would be great if these bags could be in by Friday. Thank you.
Just a reminder that this is a holiday themed week. Please dress according to the daily theme, if you would like. Monday is Ugly Holiday Sweater Day, Tuesday is Red/Green Day, Wednesday is Holiday Flannel Day, Thursday is Elf Yourself Day and Friday is Pajama Day.
