As we venture out to explore our community, we meet many people.  Some of the people that we meet have jobs that make them “community helpers.”  This week, we will explore the different community helpers which we may meet in our community.  We will discuss the meaning of work and the careers of doctors, firefighters, librarians, mail carriers, police officers and construction workers.  On Friday, as we explore the job of firefighters, we will be treated to a special visit from the Hicksville Fire Department.  They will be bringing their firetrucks for the children to see.  We also have a few parents who have graciously volunteered to come in and share their experiences at work with the class.
In addition to community helpers, we will also be learning about leaves and the life cycle of trees.  We will explore the science behind the changing colors of the leaves in the fall and go on a fall leaf hunt.  We will learn about letter Hh, the color blue and the number ten as well.  Our math concept this week is, “Which way is shorter?” and our Voyages religion lesson is, “Samuel” and “Thank God for school.”
