Second Grade Week of October 5^th – 9^th

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Here is a look at what we are working on this week:

Math: We are continuing to work with 3 digit numbers and place value concepts. We will also start to compare numbers. We will be completing Chapter 2 shortly and will have a test the week of October 13^th.

Reading: Our story for this week is Diary of a Spider. This will include the study of vocabulary as well as talking about Cause and Effect and Personification.

Phonics/Spelling: Our phonics and spelling words this week will concentrate on the long vowels o, u, and e.

Grammar: We will discuss What is a Noun?

Science: We will discuss the different ways seeds can be scattered.

Social Studies: Our study will focus on Living in Communities.

Reminders

You should have noticed last evening that the children have started their Reading Logs this week. Reading Response Logs are due on Friday of each week. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kidsstuff Coupon Books should have been paid for or returned. Please do this as soon as possible if you have not done so yet.

A Scholastic Book Order is being sent home today. Please order your books online with our class activation code. The orders should be placed no later than October 16^th. Let me know if you have any problems ordering.

Please remember that Pizza money is due by Thursday.

Next Monday, October 12^th, school is closed for Columbus Day.

We will not have a new story next week. Therefore, there will be no Reading Tests next Friday, October 16^th.

Picture day is Monday, October 19^th.
