Second Grade Notes

Week of January 5th – 9th

Happy New Year!!  I hope 2015 is off to a great start for all of you!  I was so excited to see the students of 2AA yesterday.  I missed them all during the vacation!

The second graders are going to be very busy as we get back into the groove!  As always if you have any questions at all please let me know right away!  I will be looking forward to seeing you all around school in 2015!

Here is what we are working on this week:

Math:  We are continuing our study of Chapter 5 – Subtraction.  This week we are concentrating on 2-Digit Subtraction with and without regrouping.

Reading:  Our Story this week for Lesson 12 is Ah, Music!  This is informational text that will give us various details about music and enjoying music.  We will focus on using Graphic Features as well as Fact and Opinion.  We will also focus on our Target Vocabulary words.

Phonics/Spelling:  The Phonics for this week will focus on words with Vowel digraphs -ai and -ay.  The spelling words will also follow this focus.

Grammar:  We will discuss and practice expanding and rearranging compound sentences.

Science;  We will continue to talk about ways animals adapt to their environments.  This week will focus on how birds and fish are able to adapt.

Social Studies:  We will continue our study of Unit 2:  Exploring Earth.  We will focus on weather in Lesson 4 and Earth’s Resources in Lesson 5.  There will be a Social Studies Test on Unit 2 next Thursday, January 15th.

Handwriting:  We are beginning to learn our cursive letters!!
