“In all things giving thanks and praise…”

In this season the Pre-K is thankful for their families, friends, and especially God’s love.  Thankfulness abounds in the Bible stories of Hannah and Samuel; Miriam; David and Jonathan; Hezikiah; and the Ten Lepers.

Autumn brings the changes in the weather, the bright colored leaves, scarecrows and squirrels.  The Pre-K has been reading books on these topics:  SQUIRRELS THROUGH THE YEAR, THE SHY SCARECROW,  FALL WEATHER, and TREES IN THE FALL.  Our projects have included tongue depressor scarecrows, stenciled squirrels, and sponge painted leaves.

Thankfulness continues to abound in our Native American Studies-The Iroquois, Chippawa, and Seminole tribes.  Learning their ways, playing their style of music, and seeing their art have increased our awareness of families across cultures and time.  So too with our Pilgrim ancestors– we’ve learned about the Mayflower, style of life, and the need to worship in our own way.  Projects include:  oatmeal carton drums, pilgrim hats, popcorn turkeys, and leaf turkeys. Our books are:  THANKSGIVING IS…, CELEBRATING THANKSGIVING, AND A VERY SPECIAL THANKSGIVING.

Cooking and baking have peen part of these experience also.  We’ve made pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, popcorn, butter, and cornocopias.

Corn being the staple in Native American diet we have been learning about corn and everything made from corn.  Projects included cornstalks, lacing popcorn made from paper plates.  Books and activities have included:  Little Red Fox(dramatic play); LITTLE RED FOX AND HIS CANOE( the story); THE POPCORN BOOK; AND THE CORN BOOK.

In response the God’s goodness to us the Pre-K is decorating the bags used in the Thanksgiving food drive.  We have been coloring, cutting, and pasting all week.  We say Thank You by sharing our talents, time, and food with others.

In culmination the Pre-K will be watching the movie-THE MOUSE ON THE MAYFLOWER and sharing in the Annual Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
