Last week we explored bats. We learned all about how bats live, eat, move and grow. It was fun to learn so much about this spooky Halloween animal. This week we will enjoy another spooky, fun Halloween inspired theme – Friendly Monsters.
Just like the Halloween monsters in all the not so scary monster stories we will read, we often have big feelings and emotions too. We will explore our feelings and learn to better understand our emotions. We will brainstorm ways in which we can manage various feelings and those of others. We will pay particular attention to the feeling, “scared” and discuss ways to cope with fear.
This fun theme will also allow us to enjoy some silly learning activities. Math activities will include the fingerplay, “Five Little Monsters Jumping in the Bed” and “Counting Monsters.” We will dance to spooky Halloween monster songs and create lots of crazy monster art projects including a paper bag monster, a splat painting monster puppet, a scary big green monster and a zany monster hat. Science projects include sorting blocks by monster color (physical properties) and mixing up monster slime.
Letter Ss is the letter of the week. We will explore lots of words that begin with Ss including…sad, scared, silly, surprised, slime and spider. We will make some obey-gooey slime together, and dot paint and practice drawing the letter Ss. This week should be filled with more spooky Halloween fun!!
Please be reminded that the field trip to White Post Farms is this Wednesday, October 26 from 10 am to 1 pm.
