We are beginning many projects in second grade. Long-term projects help students develop responsibility and allow them to dive deeper into topics. The students were very excited when they found out about the projects we will be starting. On Tuesday, they will be bringing home the directions for their state book report that will be completed at home for the month of October.

This past Friday, the students brought home a review packet for their Math Module 1 Test. The Math test will take place on Wednesday and will be given in the same format as the review sheet.

Here’s a look at what we will be learning this week!

Math– We will be reviewing everything we learned in Module 1 for our test on Wednesday. Module 2 instruction will begin on Thursday. Students will engage in activities designed to deepen their understanding of measurement and relation addition and subtraction to length.

Reading- We will be reading the story Herbie Sails into Second Grade. This will be the first chapter book we read as a class. The students will complete a couple of chapters and a study guide each day in class. We will also discuss making predictions and review context clues.

Science- We will begin Chapter 2 on animals. We will be learning about animal adaptations throughout the chapter. This week we will focus on bird adaptations.

Social Studies- We will be learning about our country and our location in the world. We will begin a project called “Me on the Map,” which will help students learn the differences between cities, states, countries and continents.

Religion- We will continue learning about Moses and we will also be reading the story of “Exodus”. The students will share how they can sing praises to God.
