Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. It is time for a reset for this week in first grade. Here you can find weekly what we will be doing in our classroom. I will post test dates and special events for the week as well. Please make sure you are checking their take home folders every evening and sending them back the next day. Please set aside every night for your child to do a little reading. Simple books that include CVC words will be great preparation as we start our curriculum. Spelling – We will begin decorating our spelling books (S books) this week. This book will have our spelling and reading words in it for the week. When we begin our first unit in reading, children must write their spelling words 3x each and it will be due on Wednesdays. Spelling tests are always on Fridays unless we have a day off. Otherwise it will be Thursday then.
Math – We will review a couple math vocabulary words and do some addition and subtraction review games. The first couple modules are all about addition and subtraction. We will begin our first module next Monday!
ELA – We do a lot of content in Reading/Language Arts. This week we will begin the pre pages in our Wonders book. This will review sounds of letters, segmenting, rhyming, syllables, and handwriting. During this I will also be testing each child one on one to assess their reading level. We will begin our first unit next Monday as well!
Writing – We will be reviewing what qualities a person with good handwriting must have. Simple traits such as sitting up nice and tall, having a good grip on a sharpened pencil, and taking our time! We will be doing a lot of writing in first grade and students by the end of the year will be able to write multiple sentences neatly and know how to write proper complete sentences. A lot of this will be practiced in our journals which I will let you know when those come in.
Social Studies/Science – We will switch on and off with social studies and science. We will begin with social studies. This week we will start our first lesson about how to act as a good citizen.
