Hello everyone! Last full week of first grade, I cant believe were here. This week we will NOT have a reading test, our spelling and math is on Friday. We will also be beginning our 5 day countdown! Each day we will pop a balloon, inside will be a fun activity we will do that day. 
We will also be reviewing on Friday for our benchmarks. There will be an end of the year benchmark for math and reading. There is no way to really study for this. It is to assess everything they have learned this year and to see how much they have improved since September. 

 

Spelling – 3x each due Wednesday and spelling test is on Friday! Our new spelling words this week are: fair, pair, bear, wear, spare, share, three, splash, favorite, surprise

 

Math – We will continue our module about time. This module is only 4 lessons so our LAST math test is on Friday!

 

ELA – This week NO reading test. We will still read our story which is “Happy Birthday U.S.A” on page 398. This week is a nonfiction story focusing on the question “Why do we celebrate holidays?”. This week we are learning about /are/, /ear/, /air/. We will also be learning about r syllables and metaphors. Our HF words this week are: favorite, few, gone, surprise, wonder, young. Our vocab words are: nation – group of people living in one country and unite – join together.

 

Writing – We will be writing in our journals comprehension questions about the story and doing a Fathers Day writing craft!

 

Social Studies/Science – We will be learning in our social studies books about customs, traditions, and celebrations. Next week we will be giving our grass haircuts and decorating our pots to make faces on them. They will get to bring them home by next week along with their grass journal.

 

Religion – We will be completing stories “The Wise Men and the Flight to Egypt” and “The Baptism of Jesus”

 

This Thursday we will go on our field trip to the Long Island Children’s Museum to see the play “Elephant and Piggie”. We will be returning back to school in time for lunch.
