Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed the 3 day weekend. Please make sure to check green for any important information and their orange to take a look at what we do in class. Make sure to read the story this week with your child and practice having them read it to you too. Last week the students loved “The Lost Button” so I am excited that we are starting this part of the curriculum. If you have any questions or concerns about anything please Dojo me.
Spelling – 3x each is due on Wednesday. Our spelling test will be on Friday and our new words this week are: her, fern, fur, bird, dirt, barn, arm, climb, through
Math – This week we will review for our test on Wednesday about module 12. We will do review from the book but also our own little review packet. Then, we will begin our new module on Thursday.
ELA – Our reading test will be on Thursday. This week the story the students will bring home is called “Kittens First Full Moon”. Our phonics focus will be about another set of bossy r’s. It will be /er/, /ir/, and /ur/. We will also be learning about the suffix “er” like in teacher or worker. When we add the suffix “er” it turns the action word into a noun.
We will discuss shades of meaning. This will be using similar words to make the meaning stronger, for example wet – soaked, move – hurry. Our vocabulary words will be leaped – make a big jump and stretched – to extend a body part. Our HF words this week are: another, climb, full, great, poor, through
Writing – Last week we did a lot of work in our journals to go along with our story. Students were given a journal question based on the story and had to write a response. I can see students writing becoming more meaningful and thoughtful. Here is a few examples below. We will be doing this every week to go with our stories. Now and then we like to do some fun journals as well.
Social Studies/ Science – We will be working more on our lapbook. When students are finished with this they will get to bring it home and have a whole lapbook of information about continents and oceans! Last week in our scholastic we review a little about rainbows and learned about the biggest trees in the world.
Religion – We will be working on two different stories this week. They will be “Naaman and Elisha” and “Josiah, the Boy Who Was King”
