Hi everyone! Hope you all had a fun weekend. Please continue to check their green folders for any important notices or information. Their orange folders have everything we work on in class that helps them on their reading test. This Friday we have an in school open house for families that want to join. We are all looking forward to families coming in to see our classroom and what we do everyday. Any questions or concerns please let me know.

Spelling – 3x each is due on Wednesday and our spelling test is on Friday. Our new spelling words are: key, penny, funny, bumpy, puppy, sandy, my, night, wash, would

Math – We have begun our new module last week. We did the first lesson on adding tens. This week will be about subtracting tens and using a 100 chart to do so. This module is definitely building on all the concepts we have done so far. Equations, symbols, and place value especially.

ELA – Reading test is this week. We have now entered March which means we only have about 3 months left of school. The reading tests will now be cold reads which means they will hear the story for the first time on Thursday and answer the questions. In the past we would read just the story ahead but now they are progressing and are ready for the next level. This past Thursday was a cold read and I was very impressed with how well they did on the comprehension. I will also say that this class is crushing the written part of the test!

This week we will be learning about another letter the “y thief” steals. We are focusing on /y/ and /ey/ at the end saying the long e sound. We will also learn about compound words and base words with their inflectional ending. Our HF words this week are: found, hard, near, woman, would, right. Please go over the vocabulary words every night. The vocabulary words are clever – thinks of good ideas and signal – a time to do something for example raising your hand.

Writing – We are going to be doing a lot of handwriting work for the rest of the year. Since there is only about 3 months left we will be mastering each letter. This will build on our sentence writing as well.

Social Studies – We will be working for the next couple weeks on an in class social studies project about the continents and oceans.

Religion – We will be learning about “God Speaks to Elijah” and ” Naaman and Elisha.

Important Dates – Trimester 2 ends on Wednesday – FAST on Friday
