Welcome back to a new week, and on Wednesday, a new month! The year is just flying by. Seventh grade parents, I sent out an email earlier this week, and a prompt response is much appreciated. Here are the updates for the classes this week.
6th Religion
This week we are getting into the Exodus, starting with the plagues and Passover, and going into Moses’ leadership and the people God placed in his life to help him. The memory verse this week is Numbers 14:18.
6th Social Studies
Just as the students are studying the Israelites leaving Egypt in religion, we are beginning our unit on Ancient Egypt and Kush (also known as Nubia or the modern day nation of Sudan). We will study life under the pharaohs, then we will do a mummification STEM activity where the students will mummify apple slices using natron. Natron is a mix of baking soda and salt, which is what the ancient Egyptians actually used to mummify pharaohs. At the end of the week, the students will begin their first group research projects on Egyptian and Nubian monarchs. They will work on these in class and present them next week.
7th Religion
This week we will wrap up unit one with a two lesson study on the Third Commandment and how we should honor the Sabbath as modern Christians. Then, the students will begin reviewing for their test on unit 1, which will be on Wednesday, November 8th. The memory verse this week is Joshua 24:15.
7th Social Studies
This week the students will finish studying the settlement of the 13 English Colonies, life in the colonies, and the colonial economy. Toward the end of the week, the students will begin reviewing for their test on Topic 2, which will be on Thursday, November 9th.
8th Religion
On Tuesday, the students have their test on Unit 1, and then we will begin studying the Exodus. The memory verse this week is John 6:35.
8th Social Studies
This week we will continue studying life in the West as we look at the impact of the growth of the railroad, western agriculture and ranching, and how the Native Americans were impacted by all of these changes. Then, we will shift into looking at the growth of industry and corporations.
