Hello, everyone! Due to teacher professional development on Friday, October 22nd, this is a short week, but we still have much to accomplish. Just as a reminder, picture day is Thursday, October 21st. The students must wear their regular uniform for the pictures. Here are the class updates for the week.

6th Religion

This week we are wrapping up unit 1 by finishing up our lesson on Job. The students learned that he lived in ancient Sumer, which corresponds to what we have been learning in social studies. We will then review for the Unit 1 Test, which will be next Wednesday, October 27th. You may view the study guide here. The memory verse this week is Isaiah 55:8, which is on page 29 in the student book.

6th Social Studies

In social studies, we will study the sea-faring Phoenician civilization, and the history of Judaism, which ties in with religion class. We will wrap up our unit on Mesopotamia next week, and the Topic 2 Test is tentatively set for Tuesday, November 2nd. The study guide will be posted next week.

7th Social Studies

This week we will be focusing on the New England colonies, and then on the Salem Witch Trials. The important lesson to learn from this sad event in history is that we always need to look out for and helped the marginalized people of society, not buy into mass hysteria and target those who appear weak.

8th Religion

Eighth grade is finishing up the last lesson of Unit 1 on Monday, comparing the Passover to the Lord’s Supper. Then, we will review for the Unit 1 Test, which will be on Tuesday, October 26th. You may view the study guide here. The memory verse for this week is Romans 8:28, which is on page 25 in the student book.

8th Social Studies

This week we will finish up our study of Reconstruction (Topic 9), and the long term effects it had on the U.S. The test on Topic 9 will be on Thursday, October 28th. The study guide will be posted next week.
