I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This is our first full week of school in a few weeks, so we have lots to do! Here are the updates.

6th Religion

In sixth grade religion this week we will be studying the Israelites finally entering the Promised Land of Canaan. The lessons will focus on God working in mysterious ways. We will read about God using Balaam’s donkey to deliver a message, God parting the waters of the Jordan River, and the unusual battle strategies used at the Battle of Jericho. The memory verse this week is Jeremiah 29:11.

6th Social Studies

This week in social studies we will learn about Egypt’s neighbor to the south, Kush, which is mainly the modern day nation of Sudan. Then, we will begin reviewing for the test on Topic 3, which will be on Tuesday, December 5th.

7th Religion

In religion this week, we will begin learning about living a sanctified life and what it means to be part of the Christian Church. The memory verse for this week is Acts 4:12.

7th Social Studies

This week in social studies we will be fully into the American Revolution, from the first shots at Lexington and Concord, to the Declaration of Independence, to Britain’s final surrender at Yorktown. In addition to the regular lessons, we will be studying several primary source documents to reinforce the events we are learning about.

8th Religion

In religion this week, we will be studying the mission of the 12 spies into the Promised Land, and then Korah’s rebellion against Moses and Aaron. Both stories affirm placing God’s will above all. The memory verse this week is Exodus 15:13.

8th Social Studies

This week we will begin Topic 11, which continues where we left off with Topic 10, bringing us into the 20th century. We will study the wave of immigration that occurred on both the east and west coasts at the turn of the 20th century, and how this tied in with urbanization and industrialization.
