Welcome back, everyone! Here are the updates for this week.
6th Religion
This week, we will move out of the Old Testament and into the New Testament! We will learn about the birth of Jesus, and then the story of Jesus as a 12 year old being accidentally left at the temple in Jerusalem. There is no memory verse this week.
6th Social Studies
We are also talking about Jesus in social studies this week! We will learn about how Christianity spread throughout he Roman Empire, and how differences in worship and doctrine grew during the fall and split of the Empire. We will close the unit by studying the Byzantine Empire, which arose in the eastern half. The test on Topic 8 will be on Friday, May 17th.
7th Religion
This week in religion will focus on the 5Ws and H of prayer. We will study the Lord’s Prayer as we work through the lessons over the next few weeks. There is no memory verse this week.
7th Social Studies
Last week we focused on the Industrial Revolution, urbanization, and immigration, which was centered in the North and West. This week we will switch gears and look at life in the South and the various reform movements of the mid-1800s. We will learn about how the cotton industry expanded and worsened slavery, as well as the beginning of the abolitionist movement. We will wrap up the unit by learning about the early women’s suffrage activists and then the growth of American arts and literature in this time. The test on Topic 7 will be on Friday, May 17th.
8th Religion
This week we will study the fall of Israel to the Assyrians and the actions of King Ahaz, which led to the fall. There is no memory verse this week.
8th Social Studies
The students will have their test on Topic 9- The Cold War on Thursday, May 9th. On Friday, the students will begin their final project on the history and culture of each decade from the 1960s to the 2000s.
