Welcome back to a new week! This is quite a busy week in all of the classes, and the updates are below.

6th Religion

In sixth grade religion, we will continue to study the kings of Israel and Judah. This week we will focus on Joash, Hezekiah, and Josiah. Each of the lessons emphasizes that all God wants from His people to to trust Him and put their faith in Him alone. The memory verse for this week is Matthew 11:28. The quiz will be on Wednesday. Next week, Pastor Hopkins will be joining us to teach the class about Holy Communion. More details will follow later this week.

6th Social Studies

We are continuing to study ancient Greece this week and into next week. This week we will study society and culture, as well as the Peloponnesian War, which will build upon what we studied about Athens and Sparta last week. There are no tests or quizzes this week.

7th Social Studies

On Friday, we finished learning the basics of the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and the challenges faced by Zebulon Pike. On Monday and Tuesday, we will watch a National Geographic documentary about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and the students will do an assignment along with the film. Then, we will focus on international issues going on at the time, specifically threats from the Barbary Pirates, and the War of 1812. There are no tests or quizzes this week.

8th Social Studies

At the end of last week we finished studying the Spanish American War. On Monday, we will do an activity that demonstrates how much journalism influenced the start of this war. Then, we will study how the U.S. took this victory and shaped its policy in Latin America. Finally, we will close the week with the start of World War I.

8th Religion

The students will have their test on Unit 3 on Tuesday, March 8th. We went over the review on Friday, so they should be studying a little each day until then. Later in the week, we will begin Unit 4 with a lesson on Solomon’s Temple. This will lead into their third trimester project for which each student will design their own house of worship, using Solomon’s temple as their example.
