Welcome back to a new week at Trinity. In addition to the regular studies this week, each class will also take time to look at the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as we approach the national celebration of his birthday next week.

6th Religion

The lessons in religion this week will focus on the life of King David, from his anointing as a young boy, to fighting Goliath, to his tumultuous relationship with Israel’s first king, Saul. Throughout his life we see the importance of placing God first and repenting of our sins. As I posted last week, the memory verse this week is John 6:40.

6th Social Studies

This week we will wrap up Topic 4: Ancient India. The test will be on Friday, January 12th, and we will begin reviewing on Tuesday.

7th Religion

The students will have their test on Unit 2 on Tuesday, January 9th. Then, we will begin a unit focusing on God the Father. We will look at why we call Him our Father and the work He does as our Creator. There is no memory verse this week.

7th Social Studies

In social Studies, we will be studying the ideas and philosophies that influenced the U.S. Constitution, as well as the debate over the Bill of Rights. On Friday, we will explore the First Amendment through the lens of the work of Dr. King.

8th Religion

In religion this week we will be studying a few of the major Judges of Israel- Deborah, Gideon, and finally Samson. The memory verse this week is 1 Peter 2:9.

8th Social Studies

In social studies we will begin Topic 12, which will cover both American Imperialism as well as World War I. We will start off with the U.S. becoming a major influence in the Pacific region, and then we will see how irresponsible “yellow” journalism led directly to the Spanish American War.
