Hello, everyone! I hope you are all safe, warm, and well in the midst of the latest snow storm. Here are a few brief updates for my classes this week.

6th Religion

This week we will begin a series of lessons on King David. Throughout the next four lessons, we will focus on the fact that God chose a rather unlikely person to lead His people, in politics, war, and as a spiritual leader. David’s life shows us the importance of repenting of our sins, and the forgiveness and grace that God gives to repentant sinners. There is no memory verse this week.

6th Social Studies

In social studies, we are going to fast forward a bit in our units of study. In celebration of Black History Month, we will be studying the kingdoms of Africa, which is found in chapter 13 of the curriculum. We will read about Mansa Musa, and then the students will work on research projects related to the ancient kingdoms of the continent of Africa.

7th Social Studies

This week we will finish up the last battles of the Revolutionary War. The test will be late next week. More details will be available in my next post. The students will also do a research project on how African Americans and women contributed to the American Revolution. Their textbook focuses more on battles and major leaders, so I feel that it is important to broaden our horizons and learn about some of the (unfortunately) lesser known figures of this time. It is likely that this project will be completed after Winter Recess.

8th Religion

In religion this week, we will be studying the first two kings of Israel- Saul and David. We will compare and contrast these two men, and learn about the importance of looking at who a person is, not their outward appearance. There is no memory verse this week.

8th Social Studies

This week the students are reviewing for their test on Chapter 20: The U.S. Looks Overseas. The test is scheduled for Friday, February 5th, and you may view the study guide here.
