Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether or not we have a Valentine, we can always remember the love that Jesus has for all His people, and share that with everyone in our lives. Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

Last week, the students finished the last lesson in Unit 3, so this week they will be reviewing. The test will be on Friday, February 18th. You may view the study guide here.

6th Social Studies

On Thursday, the students learned about Mansa Musa, the 13th century king of Mali, and the richest man in world history. This week, the students will be working on research projects on several more African kings, including the man who was the real life inspiration for The Lion King. They will present to the class on Friday, February 18th.

7th Social Studies

As we have finished our unit on the Constitution and civic rights and responsibilities, the students are currently working on researching African American government officials. Each person they are researching is the first to hold the position. The individuals span from the 19th century to present times. They will present their projects on Friday, February 18th.

8th Religion

This week will focus entirely on King David- the good, the bad, and everything in between. We will focus on the fact that David was not perfect, but he was faithful to God and repented when he sinned. The memory verse for this week is 1 Samuel 16:7. The quiz will be on Thursday.

8th Social Studies

In conjunction with our latest issue of Junior Scholastic Magazine, the students will be researching important figures of the Harlem Renaissance. We will start by reading about the Harlem Renaissance in the magazine, and then the students will work on learning more about specific individuals. They will present their projects on Friday, February 18th.
