Welcome back, everyone! It is the last full week of school before Christmas break! That being said, this is a very busy week full of tests, reviews, and projects. Here are the updates for each class.

6th Religion

This week we will complete unit 2 with a lesson on Samson. He is another example of how God chooses unlikely people to serve Him and how much He loves us and will always forgive us, no matter how big the sin. Then, the students will begin reviewing for the test on unit 2, which will be on Monday, December 18th. There is no memory verse this week.

6th Social Studies

Last week, the students began learning about the early civilizations of the Indus River Valley. This week they will learn about the culture and religions that developed there later on- the Vedic Age, Hinduism, and Buddhism. We will continue to learn about the leaders when we return from break in January.

7th Religion

This week we will wrap up the lessons of unit 2 by studying the Lutheran church, the Reformation, and how we are redeemed through the work of the Holy Spirit and become part of God’s family. The biblical contexts for these topic are Jesus calling the disciples, the work of Peter and John, and the conversion of Lydia. There is no memory verse this week.

7th Social Studies

The students will take their test on Topic 3, The Revolutionary War Era, on Tuesday, December 12. Then they will begin group research projects on important African American figures of this time period. I am looking forward to the presentations, as the students will be researching a variety of men and women who deserve much more recognition than they typically receive.

8th Religion

This week we will be finishing up unit 2 by learning about the Israelites fighting the Battle of Jericho and finally settling in the Promised Land. Then, the students will review for their test on Monday, December 18th. There is no memory verse this week.

8th Social Studies

In social studies this week the students will learn about the prominent African American leaders of the turn of the 20th century, and how American culture truly took shape during this time period. They will take an open notes test on Topic 11 on Friday, December 15th.
