Hello, everyone! Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

On Tuesday, the students will take their test on Unit 4. We corrected the review in class on Friday, so the students have all the materials they need to study. The next unit begins with the people of Judah returning from exile and rebuilding Jerusalem. There is no memory verse this week because of the unit test.

6th Social Studies

On Friday, we wrapped up our study of the Roman Republic, and the students will have their test on Topic 7 on Thursday, May 2nd. On Friday, we will pick right back up where we left off as we study the early days of the Roman Empire. This is a big moment, because we will finally move from BC to AD!

7th Religion

Last week we started talking about being a disciple of Jesus, and we will continue this week. We will study the examples of Ruth and Gideon of the Old Testament. Then, we will start a series of lessons on the importance of prayer as a follower of Christ. The memory verse this week is 1 Thessalonians5:16-18.

7th Social Studies

On Friday, the students began researching different inventions that changed the U.S. in the mid-1800s, as well as life under slavery. These projects will lead into our final unit of the year, which will cover the Industrial Revolution, and the growing tension between North and South over the issue of slavery. This week, we will study life in the north- industrialization and immigration. Next week, we will look at life in the south and then how the government tried to compromise on the issue of slavery, and the inevitability of the Civil War.

8th Religion

Last week the students completed their church design projects, and they did a phenomenal job at incorporating their own ideas with the traditional elements that came from Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem. This week, we will study the next generation of kings after Solomon, and the split of Israel and Judah. Then, we will study the life and ministry of the prophet Elijah. The memory verse this week is Romans 5:8.

8th Social Studies

In social studies this week, we will be studying a number of social and political conflicts that arose in the decades following World War II, from Korea and Vietnam, the the Cuban Missile Crisis, to the Civil Rights Movement, to the Women’s Movement. We will also look at how culture shifted during this time period with the expansion of the suburbs and the influence of pop culture.
