Welcome back to a new week! Here are our plans for this week.
6th Religion
This week we will be studying two of the Major Prophets of the Old Testament, Jeremiah and Daniel. We will study how Jeremiah passionately tried to get his people to repent and warned them about the possible consequences of their sins, and then how Daniel continued to live his faith even after being taken captive by the Babylonians. We will continue to study Daniel next week. The memory verse this week is Jeremiah 29:11.
6th Social Studies
In social studies the students will be working on research projects about different characters from Greek and Roman mythology, and how the culture of Ancient Greece is still relevant in our world today. They will have the option to make a poster or a booklet to present their research.
7th Religion
The students will have their test on Unit 4 on Friday, April 19th. We will begin reviewing in class Monday.
7th Social Studies
This week will focus entirely on Westward Expansion. The students will learn about the settlement of the Oregon Country, the complicated history of Texas, and how California and the rest of the Southwest became U.S. territory. They will have a test on Topic 6 on Thursday, April 25th.
8th Religion
This week the students will learn about the building of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, and then they will begin working on their Trimester 3 Project. For their final religion project this year, the students will design and build their own updated version of the Temple. I will provide the basic building materials, but the students are responsible for any extra items they add. This will be an in class project, so the students will be able to work with a partner.
8th Social Studies
In social Studies, we will be wrapping up World War II. The students will learn about how the Allies were able to defeat the Axis powers, as well as the realities of the death toll, including the Holocaust. We will finish the chapter with a video of an Auschwitz survivor meeting with a former member of the Hitler youth. It is a powerful message about forgiveness and how we can find common ground despite our differences, which is ultimately the biggest lesson we can take away from this unit. The test will be on Thursday, April 25th.
