Greetings to one and all, and welcome back to a new week! It was good to “see” all of you at our Back to School Night Zoom. As I said, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. That being said, here are the updates for the week.

6th Religion

In sixth grade religion, we will be finishing up our study of the Tower of Babel, and moving on to our first lesson on Abram/Abraham. This week will focus on the promises God made to Abram and we will discuss how we are part of those promises. On Thursday, the students will have their weekly memory quiz on Hebrews 1:1-2a. They should study from the post on the Google Classroom, as they are not memorizing the second half of verse 2.

6th Social Studies

This week in social studies, we will spend the first half of the week working on a project in class relating to the cave paintings found in Lascaux, France. The students will research the cave paintings, and then they will be creating their own updated version of a cave painting to reflect life in 2020. The students will be using brown paper bags as their “canvas,” which I will supply to the student in the building, remote students will have to supply their own. The students will present their work to the class on Wednesday. On Thursday, the students will begin reviewing for the test on chapter 2. The test will be on Tuesday, October 6th. You may view the study guide here.

7th Social Studies

Seventh grade will be tackling some of the most controversial topics in American history this week: Christopher Columbus, colonialism, and the beginning of slavery in the Americas. On Tuesday, the students will actually have a writing assignment in which they will be deciding if Columbus deserves his own holiday. We will also get in to the famed searches for the mythical cities of gold the Spaniards believed existed somewhere in what is now the U.S.

8th Religion

This week we will continue to study the family of Abraham, specifically the attempted sacrifice of his son Isaac, and the marriage of Isaac and Rebecca. The overarching theme of these lessons is trusting God in all situations. The memory quiz this Friday will be on the Lord’s Prayer. They are to use their hymnal or catechism to study.

8th Religion

This week we will finish our study of the Civil War. by looking at life for civilians, and then the decisive battles that ended the war. The test on the Civil War will be next Wednesday, October 7th. You may view the study guide here.

Have a blessed week. May God keep us all safe and healthy.
