Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a restful break. While it can be challenging to get back into a regular routine, we are charging ahead with new chapters and units of study.

8th Social Studies

This week we are beginning our study of the Progressive Movement. The late 19th and early 20th centuries were a time of great transition and modernization. We will especially focus on cutting down on political corruption, conservation, food and drug safety, women’s rights, and early civil rights leaders. This week we are focusing on political reform and the administrations of Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson.

7th Social Studies

Seventh grade is also studying important transitions of the nation. The title of the chapter is The Road to Revolution, and we will be looking at what exactly pushed the colonists to essentially commit treason against the British government, and form a new sovereign nation.

8th Pre-Algebra

This week the students are finishing their study of functions, which actually began before Christmas. There are two more lessons in the module to cover, so there will be a full Module 6 quiz in the near future.

8th Religion

This week we are beginning to study life in the Promised Land, and the unconventional people and events God used to accomplish His will. This week we will focus specifically on Joshua and Deborah. The memory verse for this week is Joshua 1:9, which can be found here or on page 53 of the student book. This verse has an especially powerful message that is beneficial to all of us.
