Greetings on this blustery winter day. As we relax on the last night of our three day weekend, let us forget the reason for this extra day of rest. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a unifying figure for equality among all Americans and quite honestly, our society would not be what it is today with out his work. While the U.S. is not perfect, we are continuously striving for improvement. On that note, we have quite a bit of work to do at Trinity this week. Here are the updates for my classes.

8th Social Studies

The last lesson of the chapter on the Progressive Era is quite appropriate for the day after MLK Jr. day. The students will be learning about the early civil rights leaders such as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Ida B. Wells. They will also learn about the discrimination of and actions taken by Asian Americans and Mexican Americans. The students will also begin reviewing for the chapter 19 test, which will take place on Friday, January 22nd, which is the last day of the second quarter. The study guide is available here.

7th Social Studies

Seventh grade has also reached the end of their last chapter before the end of the second quarter. They too will take their test on Friday, January 22nd. The chapter 5 study guide may be viewed here.

8th Pre-algebra

This week the class will continue working on solving equations with variable on both sides of the equal sign. I shared with them last week a straight forward strategy of remembering how to solve: combine variables, combine integers, divide. They will focus on solving equations with fractions and decimals. I recommend this video to help brush up on solving equations.

8th Religion

This week the eighth grade will continue to learn about the judges God selected to lead his people. We will finish studying about Samson and then continue on to Ruth. The memory verse for this week is Isaiah 48:17, which is an excellent reminder that it is indeed God who leads us on our path through life.

Blessings on your week!
