Hello, everyone! I hope the week is off to a good start for one and all, and that the season of Advent has been a blessing thus far. In addition to the regular academics and activities, there are many things happening this week.

  • The Christmas Concert is tomorrow, 12/8
  • The Middle School Christmas trip is Thursday, 12/10
  • The Barnes and Noble Book Fair night is Friday, 12/11.

8th Social Studies

This week the students will be continuing with Chapter 18 and will be looking at life in cities. They will study the push and pull factors of immigration, the creation of skyscrapers, and the start of Americans having leisure time to seek out sources of entertainment. The students will likely finish the chapter this week, and there will be a chapter test late next week. More detail will follow.

7th Social Studies

This week the students of seventh grade will be learning about the unpleasant side of the English colonies, the transatlantic slave trade. As I sad to the class, while this is not an uplifting topic to study, it is essential that were study this, learn from history, and work to prevent further atrocities from occurring (Did you know that there is more slavery and human trafficking today than ever before in world history?). The students will end the chapter with studying the new philosophies and ideas that became popular in the 18th century, and which ultimately shaped the ideals of American culture. Seventh grade will also have a chapter test next week. The exact date will be announced later this week.

8th Pre-Algebra

This week the students are reviewing Module 5, Using Linear Equations to Solve Problems. There will be a quiz on Friday, December 11th. On a related note, i would like to tell you how pleased I am with the progress of the Pre-Algebra class- they are such a hardworking and motivated group of students. I hope they maintain this momentum all year! Tremendous progress is being made!

8th Religion

The students this week are looking at the leadership of the Israelites and how God works through those individuals. They will primarily study the book of Numbers. The memory verse this week is 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, which is on page 43 of the student book. I am not linking the verse this week because the passage in the book is an abridged version. Also, the second quarter project is due next Friday, December 18th. You may view the guidelines here.
