Happy New School Year! Welcome back to all of you who are parents of returning students, and welcome to our new parents. I am so glad to be working with your children this year. The first three days of school have been a joy, and I am excited to see what the rest of this year brings. Remember, we are partners in your children’s education, so please check back weekly for the latest updates, important document links, and general announcements.

7th Social Studies

In seventh grade social studies, we have started to study the very first cultures in North and South America- the Maya, the Aztec, and the Inca. This week we will be exploring the tribes that lived/live within the modern day countries of the United States and Canada. We will also touch upon early global trade and cultures which influenced the U.S.

8th Social Studies

In eighth grade, we are fast-forwarding a few years from where we left off in seventh grade, to the Civil War. We did a review of the differences between the North and South during the 19th century, and both classes did an outstanding job of recalling the material they learned in seventh grade! This week we will be getting into the early years of the war, and reading a few first hand accounts of what life was like for the soldiers fighting in the war.

8th Religion

In eighth grade religion, we are starting at the very beginning- Genesis 1: Creation. This year we will be working our way through the Bible book by book. Much of the content will be focused on the Old Testament, with New Testament connections. This week we will be having a rather frank, and prayerfully in-depth conversation of what sin actually is and how it affects the world in which we live, and of course how God is forgiving and offers mercy and grace to His people. The context for these topics will be the account of the Great Flood and the Tower of Babel.

Every Thursday the students will have a memory quiz. This week they will be quizzed on our school verse for the year, Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. You may view the schedule here.
