Greetings! To start off this week’s blog, I would first like to thank all of you for coming out to Back to School Night. It is truly a pleasure and a privilege to tech your children, and I look forward to partnering with each of you to help your children achieve their full potential. As for this week, we are it test mode this week for the social studies classes, so extra help will be on Tuesday morning at 7:45 a.m., not on Thursday. In addition to testing, both seventh and eighth grade will begin their first supplemental book. I will send home a reminder on Monday.

7th Social Studies

As I posted last week, the students will be tested on Chapter 1 on Tuesday. They will play the Mrs. Skoch version of Jeopardy on Monday to review for the test. In my version of Jeopardy, the class works together to achieve a score that exceeds 4,000 points in order to earn bonus points. It is always an exciting time! On Wednesday, we will begin studying the European explorers. We will delve right in by looking at the controversial Christopher Columbus, and then progress into the Spanish conquistadors. The first supplemental novel, The Light in the Forest, will mesh nicely with our study of cultural clashes.

8th Social Studies

Eighth grade will also take their first social studies test of the year, Chapter 15, on Tuesday.  They will also play Jeopardy on Monday to help review and earn bonus points. Now that the class has finished studying the Civil War, we will now focus on the process of rebuilding the nation and aiding the freed slaves. In addition to Reconstruction, the students will begin reading Chasing Lincoln’s Killers to get the full picture of the tragedy that ensued just five days after the surrender of Robert E. Lee.

8th Religion

This week we will continue studying the life of Abraham and his examples of faith in the Lord. We have enjoyed lively discussions in class so far, and I am sure that this will continue as we look at Abraham being forced to leave his home and eventually being told to sacrifice his son. This week’s memory verse is Ephesians 3:14-17, which can be found on page 17 in the student book. I would encourage you to have your children begin studying ahead of time. This is a lengthy verse, but it is not impossible. Breaking it down by phrases would be helpful.

If you have any questions, remember, you can email me at [email protected]. Have a blessed week!
