Here’s a glimpse of what will be happening this week in second grade.
Reading/Language Arts
We will enjoy reading Dogs, a nonfiction informational text in our Journeys books
Spelling Words: cake, mine, plate, size, ate, grape, prize, wipe, race, line, pile, rake, gave, bike, mistake, while
Our Phonics Focus: long vowel sounds a/i , hard/soft c
Our Grammar Goals: types of sentences (statements, questions, commands)
Our week’s Vocabulary Strategy: finding word meanings by using a glossary located in the back of our Journeys books, and multiple meanings for words
Spelling Test on Friday! We will also have a Reading Comprehension test on Friday!
Math
We will complete Chapter 1 Counting Patterns Within 1,000
Test on Wednesday!
Chapter 2 will begin and we will explore grouping tens as hundreds and 3-digit numbers
Social Studies
We continue Lesson 1 At Home and School- Time Lines
Science
How do scientists know so much? What are you curious about? Looking more closely at the world around you and asking questions is the first step to becoming a scientist!
Handwriting
We will begin manuscript in our handwriting books
Religion
We will read daily devotions each day.
Our Bible stories covered this week will be Creation and the First Sin and Caring For God’s Creation
On Wednesday we will “attend” chapel on Zoom from our classroom!
A few announcements…
***IMPORTANT:* Please accept all invitations to join our Second Grade and Specials’ Google Classrooms that have been sent to your child’s email address. Once accepted, parents’ emails will be added as well. Google Classroom will be used for remote learner resources, links to forms for after-school activities, shared class materials and announcements.
If you would like your son/daughter to buy pizza on Fridays, please return the green envelope by Thursday mornings each week, labeled with your child’s name and be sure to include the exact cash amount due.
Scholastic Book Orders were sent home in your child’s folder on Friday. Please return orders or simply order online by this Friday, Oct. 2. Thank you.
